These guys are amazing. Every time. Also difficult to photograph as they run all over stage like madmen.

It’s impossible NOT to have fun at an Andrew WK show. The dude puts so much fun and energy into each performance, you’d pretty much have to have no soul. Or possibly not enjoy his PARTY HARD AND BE AWESOME life philosophy.
Andrew WK – Never Let Down
This is one of those bands I “kind of liked” until I saw them play live, since then I’ve been listening to the album over and over. Lighting was pretty dismal for this show, though towards the end it got a bit better. No press pass, no photo pit, just shooting from the crowd. Speaking of the crowd they barely seemed interested in the band, it made no sense to me, it felt like a lot of people there were just a little too cool for school.
Again, no press pass but I managed to get my camera in. I spent most of the show shooting from the middle of a very hot and sweaty crowd. It was almost like the Enmore had switched the aircon off, it was stifling! None of that really mattered though as The National were amazing. I’d seen them once before on their last tour when they played at the City Recital Hall, and was great to see them play in a venue more suited to their style of music. I moved to the side of the crowd during the encore and got a couple of shots of Matt Berninger (their singer) jumping into the crowd. They closed the show with a singalong acoustic, unamplified version of Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks.
I put one of these collections together every year. It’s by no means comprehensive, but it’s new music from 2010 that I liked. Hope you like it too.
There’s 50-60 tracks of stuff which is loosely indie pop/rock and all related genres.

Despite suffering from a fair bit of jet lag, Marina put on a fantastic show at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville tonight. I’ve got a feeling she’s going to be huge and will be playing at much larger venues the next time she’s in town. Stunning voice and great dance moves, can’t wait to see what she does next.
All photos taken from the crowd due to lack of photo pass/photo pit.
Venue was sold out, and there wasn’t a whole heap of room to move around and get different angles. The band was pretty amazing! Can’t wait to see how they develop.
Due to a scheduling screw up (my fault) and a problem with my photo pass (not my fault) and several pre-gig beverages (also my fault) I missed the first song of Tegan and Sara‘s set. As a photographer you only get three songs to get the shots you need so I spent the two songs I had running around like a crazy person trying to capture all angles possible. I don’t know how successful I was there. Either way I made some new friends and had an awesome night. Photo of the band and punters online here.
The Decemberists put on a great show at The Metro in Sydney tonight. Lots of crowd participation, great songs and a really friendly crowd, the band were in a good mood. All in all a fantastic night.
I went along to the Sydney Roller Derby League (held at Sydney Boys Highschool) on Saturday night. The CBDviants Vs S.A.S (Screamin’ Assault Sirens. It was awesome fun and a lot more physical than I was expecting, pretty much everyone on skates fell HARD at some point or other. It was damn good fun and I’ll be going again.
